Customer focused and progressive we developed NZ's first commercial electric yacht in 2010. From the goal of reducing carbon emissions we have evolved to embrace Sustainability as our core value.
Sail Barbary is currently involved with Tourism Industry Aotearoa (TIA) and Love Taupo's sustainability 12 week programme. The group has been learning together and sharing information about the sustainability work we have been doing so far.
I have been looking at Carbon calculators to measure our carbon footprint. This year we went with EKOS. We measured our emissions using the EKOS carbon calculator and offset both our boats through EKOS.
I have been trying to minimize the waste the yacht generates.
You will now find recycled cups on our boat which I purchased from our local Hospice shop. Remember the hard wearing Arcoroc cups from the 1980's? Yep, they are still going strong.
I recently purchased a new rubbish bin to help with rubbish separation. We are very keen to minimise our waste into the landfill. It also means no more plastic bag liners.
We encourage you to bring your own drink bottles as part of waste minimisation.
